
GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. – The D'Youville women's cross country team opened the 2021 season with a second-place finish at the Daniel Walker Invitational, hosted by Buffalo State, at Beaver Island State Park.
Ursuline (Ohio) won the meet with a team score of 20. D'Youville was second with 64 points. Buffalo State (65 points), Alfred State (84), and Hilbert (124) rounded out the five-team field. Emma Esteves of Ursuline won the 5k race by close to 90 seconds with a 20:08.90.
Hannah Kennedy paced the Saints with her seventh-place finish. The sophomore finished the 5k course in 22:37.54. Megan Deer also recorded a top-10 finish by crossing the line in ninth. Deer stopped the clock in 23:17.04.
Marina Ersing was 11th for the Saints. The Newfane, N.Y. native ran a 23:47.36 on Saturday. Riley Burns made it four Saints inside the top 20 with her 18th place finish in 25:09.51. Alexia Graham rounded out the scoring finishers for D'Youville. Graham crossed the line in 27:54.25 to finish 23rd.
D'Youville runs next at the Daemen Duals on Saturday, September 11, at Bassett Park.
