Women's Volleyball Swept by St. Rose

AMHERST, N.Y. – Saturday’s non-conference matchup with St. Rose saw the D’Youville women’s volleyball team fall 3-0 to the Golden Knights. The Saints fall to 1-11 overall on the season.

St. Rose scored the first four points of the afternoon. D’Youville cut the lead to one at 5-4, 6-5, and 20-19 but could not tie the set at any point. The Golden Knights closed the set on a 5-1 run once the Saints made 20-19. The Saints had a balanced attack in the opening set, with five different players registering a kill. Emily Fischer led the way with three.

Set two was a back and forth affair, with neither team leading by more than three. St. Rose scored six of the first eight points of the set. D’Youville came back to tie the match at nine and 10 all. After a kill from Nathalya Rocha to tie the game at 14-14, the Saints scored three straight points to lead 17-14. Rocha capped the run too. D’Youville held the lead until St. Rose tied the set at 23 all, and the Golden Knights would score four of the final five points to take set two, 26-24.

The Golden Knights built an early 9-3 lead in set three. Similar to set one, the Saints came back and got to within two, 21-19. The Saints benefited from two errors and got a kill from Eve Musielak in the three-point run. St. Rose then reeled off four straight points to close out the match.

On the afternoon, the Saints hit .150 over the three sets. D’Youville hit .308 in set two but hit under .100 in sets one and three. The Golden Knights hit .239 as a team and were led by Cassidy Smith with 12 kills. 


Rocha paced the Saints in kills with nine on the afternoon … Fischer had seven and hit .294 in her first action since the opening weekend of the season … Emma Wlostowski recorded 23 assists and 14 digs for her fourth double-double of the season … Rocha finished the afternoon with a season-best 10 digs …

The Saints return to ECC action on Tuesday against Roberts Wesleyan inside the College Center. It is the first home game for the Saints since Labor Day. Game time against the Redhawks is 7 p.m.
