Women's Volleyball Falls in ECC Road Match at Queens

QUEENS N.Y. - The D'Youville women's volleyball team won their first set in East Coast Conference play at Queens College Sunday afternoon but could not solve the Knights in a 3-1 defeat. Sunday's loss drops the Saints to 1-9 overall and 0-2 in the ECC on the season.

The Knights (2-8 overall, 1-1 ECC) took the first set in commanding fashion, handing the Saints a 25-13 defeat before D'Youville came back to tie the matchup in a close second set. In the 26-24, second set victory, 13 kills, and three service aces, two from freshman Kelly Cleversley and one from junior Carly Milleville helped the Saints get back into the match. 

The new conference foes played to another close third set, with Queens reclaiming the lead on a 25-20 victory. After a 4-0 run from the Saints, which used kills from freshman Nathayla Rocha and Brianna Damstetter to claw back to within three points, the Knights closed out the set, winning three out of the last four points.  

Queens continued their momentum into the fourth and final set, finishing the Saints off with a 25-16 victory to claim their first league win of the season. 


Rocha (11) and Damstetter (9) paced the Saints in kills while freshman Olivia Jarosz and Cleversley each chipped in five … Freshman Samantha Killane (15), freshman Emma Wlostowski (14), and Cleversley led D'Youville in digs … Cleversley (2) and Milleville (2) were the only Saints with service aces.

The Saints will return to the court in non-conference action at Gannon on Tuesday. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. in Erie. Pa.
