
The D'Youville women's tennis team fell to crosstown foe Daemen, 7-0, for the second-straight match in East Coast Conference action on Friday evening at the Miller Tennis Center.
Despite sophomore Taylor-Anne Austin forcing a third set in the No. 6 Singles Match, the Saints were swept by the Wildcats to send D'Youville to 0-2 overall, while Daemen improved to 2-0 for the spring.
In singles action, Frida Rubio defeated sophomore Julia Clapper (6-0, 6-0) on a first court, while the second singles match went to Christina Stasiuk (6-0, 6-0) over junior Alisson Meissner. Sophmore Faith Falkowski put up a battle with Kayla Nguyen, but dropped the No. 3 match by 6-3 and 6-1 scores.
On the court for the fourth singles bout, Taylor Nash made it close in the second set, but fell to Courtney Otis (6-1, 6-4). The fifth singles match saw junior Amanda Waliszewski lose 6-1 and 6-3 in her season debut to Mackenzie Schayes, and the sixth match had Austin fall to Hannah Pagano (6-7, 6-3, 10-3).
Doubles action opened with Rubio and Stasiuk defeating Clapper and Falkowski by a 6-0 score, while a 6-0 match between Meissner/Waliszewski and Nguyen/Otis went to Daemen as well. The third doubles match was closer, as the Nash and Lilly Nguyen duo lost, 6-3, to Schayes and Pagano.
Notables – Sophomore Katrina Whipple faced off with Daemen's Ailish McDevitt in an exhibition match on the singles side, as McDevitt took the lone set, 6-2.
Up Next – The Saints take part in their only non-conference action of the season, heading to Fredonia on Saturday, April 10, for a noon meeting.
