The D'Youville women's tennis team ended its 2021 season on Sunday evening, suffering a 6-1 loss to crosstown rival Daemen in East Coast Conference action at the Miller Tennis Center in Williamsville, N.Y.
Sunday helped the Wildcats improve to 5-3 on the season and 3-1 in ECC play, while the Saints wrapped up the campaign with an 0-7 record and an 0-5 mark in the conference.
In the doubles part of the meeting, sophomore Julia Clapper and junior Taylor Nash were handed a 6-0 defeat by the top Daemen duo, Courtney Otis and Mackenzie Schayes. In the second doubles match, junior Alisson Meissner and sophomore Faith Falkowski fell to Christina Stasiuk and Hannah Pagano, 6-1, while the third court saw Frida Rubio and Ailish McDevitt knock off sophomore Taylor-Anne Austin and freshman Katelyn Hoover in a 6-0 final.
The singles portion started off with a trio of identical 6-0 losses for the Saints, as Clapper was edged by Stasiuk, Rubio took down Meissner and Schayes defeated Falkowski. Austin did not go down as easily against Otis, falling by scores of 6-2 and 6-0.
The final two singles courts were battles, as Nash took Pagano to the limit before the Wildcat turned in a 6-2, 7-6 win. On the sixth court, Hoover came out with a 6-0, 6-0 victory of her own over McDevitt, giving D'Youville its second singles win of the campaign.
Notables – Daemen now leads the all-time series by a 5-0 margin … Hoover's win over McDevitt was the first win for the Saints in EC action in either singles or doubles competition.
