The D'Youville women's tennis team dropped its lone non-conference match of the spring on Saturday afternoon, falling to Fredonia by an 8-1 score at the Steele Hall Courts in Fredonia, N.Y.

The defeat moved the Saints to 0-3 for the campaign, while the Blue Devils move to 1-0 after the season-opening victory.

Starting the day off with the doubles matches, Fredonia's top duo of Jane Chiacchia and Taylor Marelli took down sophomores Julia Clapper and Faith Falkowski in a 6-0 decision. Juniors Alisson Meissner and Taylor Nash followed by dropping their match, 6-4, to Princess Unita Obi and Bella Surma, while sophomores Lilly Nguyen and Taylor-Anne Austin posted an identical score, 6-4, in their loss to the Dominique Martello/Sarah O'Leary combo.

Moving onto the singles matchups, Chiacchia bested Clapper (6-4, 6-3) in the top match, and Marelli edged out Meissner in the No. 2 match. Falkowski and Unita Obi battled in a three-set affair, with the Blue Devils' entrant taking the third singles match (4-6, 7-6, 10-6).

In the fourth singles match, Surma handed Nash a quick defeat (6-2, 6-1), but the No. 5 match turned into a contest, as Austin and Martello squared off in match that went three sets in favor of Martello (5-7, 6-4, 10-8). In the final match of the day, D'Youville captured its first singles win of the season, as sophomore Katrina Whipple knocked off O'Leary in a three-set victory (6-2, 1-6, 10-8).
