Women's Soccer Collects First Ever ECC Win with Win Over STAC

BUFFALO, N.Y. – A pair of first-half goals lifted the D’Youville women’s soccer team to the program’s first ECC win with a 2-1 triumph over St. Thomas Aquinas.

The win moves the Saints’ record to 3-3 overall, and 1-1 in East Coast Conference play. It is also two straight wins for D’Youville.

Kavina Ganeshan and Brooke Ianiero scored for the Saints in the opening 45 minutes. Ganeshan scored when she put home a rebound that came off a shot from Jillian Bernas in the 25th minute. Ianiero capitalized ten minutes later when she knocked in a shot in a practically wide-open net. Dani Camilleri provided the assist when her initial shot was pushed back into the six-yard box.

The Spartans got to within one three minutes after Ianiero scored. St. Thomas Aquinas benefited when a D’Youville defender put an Amanda Fuchs-White cross into the Saints goal.

St. Thomas Aquinas (2-5, 1-2 ECC) put four shots on goal in the second half, and Laurie Poeller stopped all four.

The goals from Ganeshan and Ianiero were their firsts in a Saints uniform. This year, six different players have scored for the Saints, and nine different players have recorded at least a point.

Poeller (3-2) made seven saves in goal for the Saints.

Bernas’ assist was her fifth point on the season, which ranks second on the team.

Caitlin Speranza had three shots on goal to lead the Spartans.
