Women's Soccer Drops Road Contest to Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The D’Youville women’s soccer team fell 3-1 at Bridgeport on Saturday afternoon in East Coast Conference action. The loss drops the Saints to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in ECC play.

The Purple Knights netted a pair of first-half goals. Evelyn Hammer opened the scoring in the 15th minute with her first of the season. Ten minutes later, Riley Soares doubled Bridgeport’s advantage.

Laurie Poeller made a couple of crucial saves for the Saints when the game was 2-0 Bridgeport. Poeller stopped a pair of chances from the Purple Knights when she and the attacking player.

Five minutes into the second half, Amiah Washington redirected in a cross that hit off Andrea Basilicato. Washington’s tip went back to the right post to beat Poeller as the Saints ‘keeper moved to her left to play a potential shot from Basilicato.

Maggie Leeds added to her team-leading goal tally in the 81st minute. Leeds intercepted a pass from the Bridgeport keeper, took a dribble, and fired a shot over the goalie and into the middle of the open net. The goal was the fourth of the season for the midfielder.


Poeller finished the afternoon with six saves … It is her third straight game with at least six stops … Leeds also paces the Saints attack in points (9) …
