Women's Soccer Blanked in Home Opener Against Daemen

The D'Youville women's soccer team returned to Dobson Field for the first time since No. 2, 2019, dropping a home match with Daemen, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon.  

Sunday's setback saw the Saints drop to 0-2 on the season while the guest Wildcats improved to a 1-2 mark.  

Three first-half goals downed the Saints early, as Brooke Amato put the Wildcats on the board in the eighth minute and Nicole Grichen doubled the Daemen advantage in the 20th minute before Fayne Panagopoulos closed out the scoring in the opening half with the third Wildcat goal in the 31st minute. 

In the second halfAmato found the back of the net for the second time on the afternoon with a goal in the 77th minute, capping Sunday's scoring.

Junior goalkeeper Laurie Poeller got the start in goal for D'Youville and recorded 10 saves before being subbed off in the 62nd minute. Freshman goalkeeper Madison Catalano finished off the game between the pipes and stopped three shots herself. 

Notables – Daemen leads the all-time series by a 3-0 margin ... The Wildcats outshot the Saints 40-3, including 18 shots on goal to D'Youville's one ... D'Youville's shots came from Jordan Pachla (one shot n goal), Maggie Leads, and Gabrielle Czech ... It is the second-straight game where the Saints have used a tandem in net.

Up Next – The Saints will see the Daemen again next Saturday, April 17, for a noon match in Amherst N.Y.
