The D'Youville women's soccer team was unable to muster any offense in its season-opening match, being shut out by fellow East Coast Conference member Roberts Wesleyan, 6-0, on a rainy Sunday afternoon in Rochester, N.Y.

The Saints moved to 0-1 on the spring campaign, while the Redhawks remained undefeated at 2-0.

Roberts got on the board early, as a corner-kick from Justine Sharda in the 11th minute led to the ball bouncing around in front of the D'Youville net before Sydney Regan tapped it in near the left post.

The Saints kept the Redhawks at bay for 15 minutes, but the hosts added to their lead in the 26th minute when Regan set up Eboni Redman-Coombs for a shot in front that beat Saints junior goalkeeper Laurie Poeller.

In the 30th minute, Roberts widened the gap with their third goal of the match, as Stevielyn Diggory connected on a shot from far outside the box that snuck in on Poeller's left-side.

Coming out of halftime, the Redhawks continued to assert themselves, as Alana Montreal found Olivia Grande to her left off a two-on-one chance, and Grande kicked in the fourth Roberts tally of the game past the Saints' freshman netminder Madison Catalano.

Roberts did not let up, adding a fifth score in the 57th minute when Regan kicked into the box from out wide, finding Redman-Coombs who converted on her second goal of the day.

The home team tacked on its sixth and final goal in the 65th minute with a tally from Abigail Sindoni, finishing off the scoring in Sunday's contest.

Despite the loss, Poeller made eight saves in her 47 minutes between the pipes, while Catalano registered eight saves herself in 43 minutes of relief.

Notables – Sunday's loss is only the third defeat for the Saints in their last 10 games dating back to 2019 … The six goals for Roberts are the most against the Saints since a 7-0 loss to Penn State-Behrend on Oct. 23, 2019 … A pair of Saints defenders, senior Cassie Brooks and sophomore Sarah Milczarski, played the entire 90 minutes for D'Youville.

Up Next – The Saints will return to the pitch on Sunday, April 11, when they play host to ECC foe Daemen. That match is slated for 3 p.m.
