Women's Soccer Falls in Second Meeting with Daemen

The D'Youville women's soccer team was unable to exact revenge on crosstown rival Daemen on Saturday afternoon, falling by a 5-0 score at Karrer Field in Amherst, N.Y.

Another multi-goal performance by the Wildcats' Brooke Amato proved to be the difference, as Daemen improved to 2-2 overall, while the Saints shifted to a 0-3 record for the campaign despite 12 saves from junior goalkeeper Laurie Poeller.

The game was scoreless for the opening 20 minutes despite a shot on goal from D'Youville junior Anna Hayes. Amato broke the shutout with a goal in the 21st minute, and she quickly found the back of the net again just over a minute later off a pass from Tatyjana Scalisi.

Nicole Grichen added to the Daemen lead in the 27th minute to cap off scoring in the first half.

Daemen would tack on two more goals in the second half, as Grichen assisted on a Madeline Emmi goal in the 54th minute, while Madita Zeitz scored in the 73rd minute with an assist going to Ashleigh Strasser on the game's final tally.

Poeller was handed the loss, playing all 90 minutes in goal for the Saints, while Maddie Flores got the win in one half of action before being subbed out for Tori DeLappi. Both DeLappi and Flores recorded a save in the winning effort.

Notables - The 12 saves by Poeller is the most for her since 20 saves against Penn State-Behrend on Oct. 1, 2019 ... Hayes and sophomore Jordan Pachla each recorded a shot on goal for the Saints ... The all-time series moved to 4-0 in the Wildcats' advantage.

Up Next - The Saints will play host to Roberts Wesleyan on Wednesday, April 21, at Dobson Field. That contest is set for 7 p.m.
