A season-high eight goals in the first half jump-started the D'Youville women's lacrosse team to its first win of the 2021 campaign, as the Saints took down Buffalo State, 12-8, Monday evening at Dobson Field in Buffalo, N.Y.

Monday's win improved D'Youville to 1-3 overall, while Buffalo State fell to 0-1.

13 seconds into the contest, sophomore attacker Danielle Thompson got the Saints on the board with a free-position goal. After the Bengals tied the game just over a minute later, D'Youville took control of the game with a 6-0 scoring run spanning almost 10 minutes. D'Youville could never put Buffalo State away for good as the Bengals clawed back to within two goals of D'Youville when Samantha Burlow scored at the 25:15 mark of the second half. The goal capped a 4-1 run for Buffalo State, going all the way back to the midway point of the first half. The Saints quieted the run with two goals of their own from Thompson and junior forward Riley Riedel. Buffalo State could never get closer than three goals of the D'Youville advantage the remainder of the nights as the teams traded goals for the final 17 minutes.
