Forcing overtime with four seconds left in regulation, the D'Youville women's lacrosse team was unable to complete the upset in its first-ever East Coast Conference game, falling to Bridgeport, 10-9, on Saturday afternoon in Bridgeport, Conn.

Addison Plume's game-winning free-position goal with 1:07 elapsed in the extra period shifted the Purple Knights to 1-0 overall and in league play, while the Saints dropped to 0-3 on the season and 0-1 in ECC action.

Bridgeport came out rolling, scoring the first four goals of their season opener before junior Riley Riedel put a stop to the run with a tally off a Marissa Markott assist at 15:18 in the opening half. Giselle Hall would make it a four-score game again 10 minutes later, scoring on a free-position chance with 4:10 left in the first frame. D'Youville cut the deficit to 5-3 off a pair of goals from sophomore Bethany Wolcott in the final two minutes of the half.

Wolcott continued her streak in the second half, scoring the opening goal of the half at 27:43 from the free position, while sophomore Danielle Thompson tied the game on an unassisted goal just over three minutes later. Senior Isabella Lucania gave the Saints their first lead of the day at the 22:01 mark of the second period, getting a shot past Bridgeport goalkeeper Abbie Jones on a free-position opportunity. Closing out the six-goal run by D'Youville was junior Tiffany Cristofanelli, scoring after a pass from sophomore Jordan Pachla with 16:14 left. The Purple Knights got back on the scoresheet less than a minute later, but Markott widened the advantage to two goals again at the 12:21 mark. Scoring three goals in a row, Bridgeport regained the lead with 1:10 left in the game, but Lucania stepped up for the Saints as the clock ticked down by beating Jones from the free-position with four seconds remaining.

Unfortunately for the upstart Saints, the Purple Knights got the last word thanks to Plume's lone goal of the contest.

Wolcott matched Bridgeport's Courtney Hylok and Tereza Kreuzova with a game-high three goals, while Plume led all players with two assists. Pachla paced the contest with her six ground balls, with Lucania right behind her with five. Freshman goalie Hannah Wilson made six saves while facing 16 shots for the Saints, while Jones had a busier day on her end, recording 13 saves on 22 shots for the win.
