The D'Youville women's basketball team hit the road for the second time this season, dropping the front-end of a weekend series, 75-55, with Clarion University at Tippin Gym on Saturday afternoon.

The Saints (0-3, 0-2 ECC) fell behind early, unable to match a high-flying Golden Eagle's offense that converted 51.9% of their attempts from the field in the first half and added 12 points from the charity stripe. D'Youville struggled to find an answer for center Devon Adams, who put up 11 first-half points (4-7 FG). Clarion (1-1, 0-0 PSAC) added four three-pointers in the opening 20 minutes and got two of them from forward Abby Gatesman. Sophomore guard Sara Pfeiffer paced the Saints, and all scorers, in the first half with 12 points (5-12 FG), but D'Youville struggled from the field in the first half, shooting only 7-of-35 (20.0 percent) from the field. Clarion outrebounded the Saints 27-17 and used an 11-2 advantage in bench points to take a 24-point halftime lead.

The Saints found a better rhythm in the second half. Junior forward Riley Riedel added five quick points for the Saints with back-to-back buckets from the top of the key. After Riedel's third successful jumper, junior guard Danielle Hore cashed in a three of her own and Pheiffer added a layup to help the Saints cut the Golden Eagle advantage to 17 points at the 3:05 mark in the third quarter. D'Youville would go on to outscore Clarion in the third, 21-15, but could never get closer than 17 points in the second half, as the hosts finished off the 75-55 victory.

Notables: D'Youville picked up double-figure scoring efforts from Pfeiffer (18 points, 6-18 FG) and Hore (11 points, 4-11 FG) … Riedel also chipped in seven points, and sophomore guard Elizabeth Bradley added six points of her own … Sophomore forward Sarah Wittek paced the Saints with six rebounds while Pfeiffer and Hore dished out a team-high three assists.

Clarion landed four players in double-figures for scoring: Ke'Airah Massiah (18 points, 4-7 FG), Adams (13 points, 5-9 FG), Gatesman (12 points, 3-5 FG), and Allyson Kirby (11 points, 3-6 FG) … Adams was one rebound shy of a double-double, grabbing nine rebounds while Gatesman collected eight rebounds herself.

The Golden Eagles hit 53.5 percent (23-43 FG) of their attempts from the field compared to the Saints' 31.7 percent (20-63 FG) … From beyond the arc, Clarion nailed 35.5 percent (6-17 3PT) of their three-point field goals compared to 18.8 percent (3-16 3PT) from D'Youville … the Golden Eagles converted 71.9 percent (23-32 FT) of their attempts while the Saints hit 66.7 percent (12-18 FT) of their free-throw opportunities.
