Fresh off back-to-back sweeps and riding a four-game winning streak, the D’Youville softball team will begin East Coast Conference play this weekend with
doubleheaders at the University of Bridgeport and the College of Staten Island.

Last Time Out – The Saints swept Houghton, 2-1 and 8-3, in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday in Houghton, N.Y. After a scoreless first three innings in game one, freshman Lauren Vickers doubled to deep center, scoring both sophomore Jamie Bower and senior Rachel Colan to put the Saints ahead 2-0. Senior pitcher Alexa Haberer (3-0) needed to work out of a tight situation in the bottom of the seventh to put the Houghton away for good. With runners on first and second, Haberer fanned her seventh Highlander of the game before Cybart popped out to junior second baseman Maddy Pepke to end the opener. In the rematch, the D'Youville offense got rolling in the top of third inning with junior Mikaela Milleville leading off with a double and Bower following up with a walk. Two batters later, Vickers drove Milleville home with a bunt single. Later in the frame, freshman pitcher Lauren Booth helped her own cause with a three-run double to center field, widening the D'Youville advantage to five runs. Booth (1-0) took the circle for the Saints in game two, tossing 5.2 innings and striking out three batters while walking one and surrendering two earned runs.

D’Youville by the Numbers – Six Saints are batting over .300 this season, paced by Bower (.500 AVG). Bower is followed by Pepke (.450 AVG), Colan (.438 AVG), Vickers (.438 AVG), Milleville (.389 AVG), and Haberer (.375 AVG) … As a team, the Saints are batting .344 with a .410 on-base percentage, and a .468 slugging percentage … Vickers and Bower pace the team with six RBI and Milleville leads the team with two stolen bases.

Bridgeport at a Glance – The Purple Knights have yet to take the diamond this season but in 13 games last season, Bridgeport posted an 8-5 record before their season was shut down due to COVID-19. Despite losing their top batter from a year ago, seniors Elyssa Marmolejo and Sarah Silver return to the Purple Knight lineup after hitting .349 and .313 respectively last season.

College of Staten Island at a Glance - The Dolphins will also be opening their 2021 campaign with D'Youville. Sunday will be Staten Island's first game action in two seasons as they did not take the field in 2020 before the pandemic hit. Despite losing their top two batters from 2019, sophomore Jaclyn Kateridge, who finished third on the team with a .343 batting average, and sophomore Claudia Porcaro, who finsished fourth with a .339 batting average, return for Staten Island in 2021.
