The D'Youville softball team hit the road for the first time this season, taking on Houghton College in a non-conference doubleheader in Houghton, N.Y. The Saints took game one, 2-1, on the back of senior pitcher Alexa Haberer's third complete-game victory of the season before the D'Youville bats woke up in game two with nine hits in the 8-3 victory.

Tuesday's pair of wins stretches D'Youville's winning streak to four games and improves the Saints to 5-1 overall while the host Highlanders dropped to 0-2.

Game One Recap

After a scoreless first three innings, sophomore catcher and East Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week Jamie Bower laced a double to the gap in left center and senior shortstop Rachel Colan moved her to third on the next at-bat with a bloop single to right. Freshman Lauren Vickers followed suit with a double to deep center, scoring both Bower and Colan to put the Saints ahead 2-0. Houghton answered in the bottom half of the frame when Caitlyn Cybart doubled to left field. Cybart came around to score on the next at-bat on an error by Colan.

Haberer (3-0) took the circle for the Saints in game one. With the tying run on second in the bottom of the fifth inning, Haberer picked up her fifth strikeout to end the threat and keep the Saints ahead by one. Haberer worked out of an even tougher jam in the sixth. With the tying and go-ahead runs on second and third, Haberer retired the next three batters to end the inning. Haberer needed to work out of one more tight situation in the bottom of the seventh to put the Houghton away for good. With runners on first and second, Haberer fanned her seventh Highlander of the game before Cybart popped out to junior second baseman Maddy Pepke to end the opener.

Along with her seven strikeouts, Haberer only issued one walk and allowed one unearned run on seven hits.

Game Two Recap

The Saints wasted no time getting on the board in the top of the first inning. With one out and the bases loaded, Haberer singled up the middle to drive in Pepke from third. The D'Youville offense got rolling again in the top of third inning with junior Mikaela Milleville leading off with a double to left field. Bower followed up with a walk. Two batters later, Vickers drove Milleville home with a bunt single. Later in the frame, freshman pitcher Lauren Booth helped her own cause with a three-run double to center field, widening the D'Youville advantage to five runs.

The Highlanders threatened in thbottom of the fourth with runners on the corners, but Booth got Cybart to pop out to second base to end the inning. Vickers continued the scoring in the fifth with a solo shot to left field for her first collegiate home run. Haberer followed up with a double to left center, forcing Houghton's starting pitcher, Alisabeth Crandell, out of the game.

Booth (1-0) took the circle for the Saints in game two. In 5.2 innings, she struck out three batters while walking one and surrendered two earned runs on seven hits. Senior pitcher Britaney Goodrich came on in relief of Booth in the sixth and recorded the final four outs to secure D'Youville's fifth win of the season.
