The D'Youville cross country team opened their spring campaign at the Medaille Invitational 5K on Sunday morning, racing against former AMCC rivals Medaille and Hilbert at Delaware Park's Hoyt Lake in Buffalo, N.Y.
A pair of newcomers led the way for the Saints on the women's side, as Riley Burns finished second to the Mavericks' Katie Bobowicz with a time of 21:46. Megan Deer was behind her in third, posting a 21:51 time. Burns and Deer were joined in the women's race by Madeline Fleming, who placed sixth with a 25:50 posting, and Kaitlyn Furtado, who finished one second behind Fleming in seventh.
On the men's side, Dominick Harris was the lone representative for D'Youville, as the returning junior was fifth-best among the seven runners, crossing the finish line with a time of 24:52. Nicholas Cicero of Medaille won the men's race with a posting of 17:10, a full 1:45 ahead of the next men's runner.
