BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The D’Youville men’s soccer team fell 5-0 at Bridgeport on Saturday afternoon. The loss brings the Saints’ record to 4-5-2 and 0-4 in ECC play.
Bridgeport scored twice in the first and three times in the second half to get the win.
Hannes Nilsson made it 1-0 Purple Knights with a goal in the seventh minute. Twenty minutes later, it was 2-0 Bridgeport after a shot or a cross from Kevin Martinez was deflected through the legs of Ethan Picard in the Saints goal off a Saints’ defender.
Felipe Santos had a chance to get the Saints within one in the early moments of the second half. The first-year Saint sped down the left-wing and beat his defender but was denied by Clement Anet. Anet went down to his left and controlled the effort.
The Purple Knights tacked on goals in the 64th, 79th, and 90th minutes. The final goal for Bridgeport came in the final seconds on a long shot from David Torres.
Picard and William Anderson appeared in goal … Anderson surrendered the last two goals from Bridgeport … Picard ended the day with seven saves … Nick Dumond had the other two shots on goal outside Santos’ pair …
The Saints return to action and Dobson Field on Saturday, Oct. 9, against The College of Staten Island. Game time with the Dolphins is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the women.
