BUFFALO, N.Y. - The D’Youville men’s soccer team returned to Dobson Field and stayed in the win column, cruising past Villa Maria, 17-1, Wednesday evening in non-conference action.
The Saints scored early and often, led by senior Nick Dumond, who found the back of the net on a penalty kick in the seventh minute to put the Saints ahead 1-0. Freshman Luis Felipe Santos doubled D’Youville’s advantage four minutes later when he scored on an unassisted effort. The Saints wound up scoring six more times in the opening 45 minutes to take a commanding 7-0 advantage into the intermission.
The Vikings got their lone goal of the match on a curling free-kick from Clayton Enfield that bounced off the right post in the 63rd minute.
In the second half, the Saints added 10 more. D'Youville scored inside the first two minutes of the half and added eight more markers after the Vikings got on the board.
Seven Saints found the back of the net, led by eight goals from Dumond … Felipe Santos also notched a hat trick with three goals of his own while freshman Alec Muniz scored a brace for D’Youville … Freshman Paulo Carvalho, sophomore Noah Steele, and sophomore Dylan DeGlopper each scored once for the Saints.
Wednesday’s victory improves the Saints to 3-0 on the season and marks the program's best start to a regular during head coach Brendan Murphy’s nine-year tenure … The 17 goals were the most scored by the Saints under Murphy.
The Saints will hit the road for a non-conference match with Alfred University on Saturday, September 11. Kick-off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. in Alfred, N.Y.
