BUFFALO, N.Y. - The D’Youville men’s soccer team returned to home East Coast Conference action on Saturday, falling to St. Thomas Aquinas, 5-0, at Dobson Field. Saturday’s home defeat drops the Saints to 4-3-2 on the season and 0-2 in league play.
The Spartans (4-2-1 overall, 1-1 ECC) grabbed the lead in the 17th minute when freshman Ethan Picard’s right hand wasn’t enough to stop a low-driven shot from Cole Allen. Picard was beaten again in the 32nd minute, this time by Juan Pablo Cedeno Varea to give STAC a two-goal advantage at the intermission.
Three more second-half goals, including two from Seif Samy, put the Saints away. D’Youville struggled all game to get opportunities as the Saints only registered one shot on goal out of their four total attempts.
Picard collected seven saves for the Saints while junior goalkeeper William Anderson came in relief to grab three more saves between the D’Youville posts … STAC peppered the D’Youville net with 15 shots on frame in 25 total attempts.
The Saints will open their road ECC slate on Wednesday, September 29 at Molloy. Kick-off is slated for 4 p.m. in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
