JOHNSTOWN, PA. - The D'Youville men's soccer team got on the scoreboard first but ended up drawing with Pitt-Johnstown, 1-1, after two overtime periods Tuesday afternoon in Johnstown, Pa. The non-conference tie moves the Saints to 4-2-2 on the season.
Both teams played a tight opening thirty minutes in the first half. In the 35th minute, freshman Felipe Santos placed his sixth goal of the season into the top right corner with an assist from sophomore Guillermo Cabello. Ten seconds later, the Mountain Cats (1-3-1) found their answer on a goal from Alexzander Toto, leveling the match at one.
In the first 45 minutes, the Saints edged Pitt.-Johnstown in shots, 10-7, despite the Mountain Cats putting five of their attempts on goal to D'Youville's four. Santos and Cabello had two of D'Youville's four shots on goal, while freshman goalkeeper Ethan Picard got the nod between the D'Youville posts and collected four first-half saves.
Neither side could break the deadlock in the second half as each team fired off six shots, including two on goal for each team. In overtime, Picard kept two more Mountain Cat shots out of the back of the net to end the match in a tie.
Both teams attempted 16 shots as nine of Pitt.-Johnstown's attempts were put on frame while six of D'Youville's shots were on goal ... Santos (3), Cabello (2), and freshman Paulo Carvalho (1) placed shots on goal for the Saints.
Picard occupied the D'Youville net for all 110 minutes on Tuesday and collected eight saves.
Santos' six goals are second on the team so far this season ... The first-year Saint is also second on the team in points (12).
The Saints return to East Coast Conference action when they welcome St. Thomas Aquinas to Dobson Field on Saturday, September 25 with kick-off scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
