Men's Basketball Drops Non-Conference Tilt at No. 21 Gannon

The D'Youville men's basketball team struggled to find an offensive rhythm Thursday evening, falling to No. 21 Gannon University, 96-38, at the Hammermill Center in Erie, Pa.

Junior forward Garrian Wade connected from downtown to put the Saints on the board, cutting the early Golden Knight advantage in half at 6-3D'Youville wouldn't find another field goal for another seven minutes when senior forward Grant Beyer drilled a three as Gannon had built an 11-point lead at 20-9. Freshman forward Jared Sullivan added an acrobatic layup a couple possessions later, curling his arm under the backside of the glass to drop the ball in the basket off of an assist from freshman guard Kaori Barley. Junior guard Latrell Butler added D'Youville's third three of the opening 20 minutes and sophomore forward Noah Denz added a pair of layups in the final 90 seconds of the half.

Gannon silenced any chance of a D'Youville second half comeback, beginning the final period of play with a 21-3 run over the first nine minutes. At the half-way point of the second half, junior forward Jaeger Martino cashed in from downtown and Beyer banked a fade-away jumper to momentarily quiet the Golden Knights.

Notables – Wade led the Saints in scoring (9 points, 4-11 FG), followed by Beyer (7 points, 3-10 FG), and Sullivan (5 points, 2-4 FG) ... as a team, the Saints were held to 24.2 percent (15-62 FG) from the field and 16.7 percent (4-24 3PT) from beyond on the arc.

Four Golden Knights landed in double figures Thursday night, paced by guard Chris Clancy (18 points, 7-13 FG), followed by center Ian McNeill (16 points, 8-8 FG), guard Ike Herster (13 points, 3-9 FG), and forward Kevin Dodds (10 points) ... Gannon controlled the glass for the second time this week, outrebounding the Saints 57-31.
