Fresh off their first victory of the season, head coach Earl Schunk and the D'Youville men's basketball program are set to begin East Coast Conference action with a pair of league contests this week. The Saints will open their home schedule and conference slate on Wednesday against Roberts Wesleyan, before traveling to Rockville Center, N.Y. to battle Molloy on Saturday.

Off and Running - The Saints made the five-mile trek across town to pick up their first win of the 2020-21 season. Saturday's high-scoring affair saw D'Youville trailing by two points to the USCAA's Villa Maria Vikings at halftime before netting 58 second-half points en route to a 94-80 triumph. ECC Defensive Player of the Week and sophomore forward Noah Denz paced the Saints with his first career double-double. Denz tallied 17 points (6-14 FG), 12 boards, and three assists. Five other Saints landed in double-digit scoring, including junior forward Jaeger Martino (14 points, 5-9 FG), freshman guard Trent Scott (14 points, 5-10 FG), junior forward Garrian Wade (12 points, 4-10 FG), ECC Honor Roll selection and freshman forward Mason Putnam (11 points, 3-9 FG), and senior forward Grant Beyer (10 points, 3-7 FG).

New Foes - After 11 seasons in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, the Saints will begin their transition to the NCAA Division II level and compete with five other ECC schoools this year: Daemen College, Roberts Wesleyan College, Mercy College, Molloy College, and St. Thomas Aquinas College. D'Youville will play Daemen, Mercy, Molloy and Roberts Wesleyan as part of the team's conference slate this season, while a first meeting between the Saints and St. Thomas Aquinas will need to wait until 2021-22.

Roberts Wesleyan at a Glance – Through four games, the Redhawks hold a .500 record at 2-2. Despite already playing three more games than the Saints, Roberts Wesleyan has had just as many games canceled during their campaign. The Redhawks edged out Bryant & Stratton (Rochester) by six points before losing handedly at Mercyhurst, 88-56. In their last action for two weeks, the Redhawks split a home-and-home series with Clarion, falling to the Golden Eagles by three on the road before handing Clarion a 20-point defeat at the Voller Athletic Club in Rochester, N.Y. Roberts Wesleyan is led in scoring by forward Armon Nasseri and guard/forward Ja'Kair Sanchez with 17.0 points per game each, in rebounds by Nasseri with 9.5 per game, and in assists by guard Isaiah Lewis with 4.5 per game.

Molloy at a Glance - Molloy looks to tip-off their 2020-21 season on Wednesday, Feb. 3, with ECC preseason favorite Saint Thomas Aquinas. The Lions finished the 2019-20 campaign with a 12-17 record, including 7-9 mark in the ECC. Molloy knocked off fifth-seeded New York Tech with a 68-61 victory in the opening round of the 2020 ECC Tournament. Three days later, their season ended at the hands of the ECC regular season champions BridgeportMolloy loses their top-two scorers from a year ago, including guard Nick Corbett. Corbett averaged 23.7 points per game, including a 44-point effort against Roberts Wesleyan last season. Head coach Charles Marquardt may look to guard Steven Torre, who averaged 10.4 points per game last season, to fill Corbett's shoes in a larger role this season.
