The D'Youville men's basketball team was back in action Sunday to complete a weekend series at East Coast Conference rival Roberts Wesleyan, as the Redhawks led early and often throughout the matchup en route to a weekend sweep, defeating the Saints, 101-67, at the Voller Athletic Center in Rochester, N.Y.

D'Youville dropped to 1-10 on the season and 0-5 in the ECC and the Redhawks improved to 6-6 overall and 4-4 in league play.

Junior forward Jaeger Martino put the Saints on the board first with a layup on D'Youville's first possession. The early advantage wouldn't last long as the Redhawks responded with 13 unanswered pointsRoberts continued their hot stretch to open the game, inflating their lead to 17 points at 31-14 by the under-12 media timeout. Latrell Butler added his name to the scoresheet with back-to-back threes, the first with an NBA-range three from the top of the key right before the under-eight media break and the second from the left corner, cutting the Roberts advantage to 15 points at 38-23 with 7:03 left in the half.

Five Saints found the bottom of the net in the opening period, including freshman guard Mason Putnam (14 points), Butler (6 points), Martino (5 points), sophomore forward Noah Denz (2 points), and senior forward Grant Beyer (4 points).

In the second half, the Redhawks cruised to their second consecutive win. The lone bright spot for the D'Youville offense during the final 20 minutes was senior guard Brian Sharp, who connected on all four of his attempts from beyond the arc, collecting 12 points to outscore everyone else in the half. The senior from Newark, N.Y., doubled his previous season-high of six points, coming back in the 101-80 defeat to Molloy earlier this month.

Notables – Putnam paced the Saints in scoring, dropping 22 points on six-of-17 shooting, as he was followed up by Sharp (12 points, 4-5 FG and 4-4 3PT) and Beyer (9 points, 4-14 FG) ... The Saints struggled to shoot in the afternoon matchup, only converting 33.8 percent (22-65 FG) of their attempts from the field and went 11-of-34 from beyond the arc while the Redhawks cashed in on 46.7 percent (35-75) of their attempts and hit a near 40 percent (11-28 3PT) mark from downtown ... 23 D'Youville turnovers turned into 24 points for the Redhawks while the Saints used 18 turnovers for 11 points ... Roberts dominated the paint setback, out-rebounding the Saints 51-37 and outscoring the visitors 48-20 down low.

Up Next – The Saints will complete the four-game road swing on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2021, as D'Youville takes on the Daemen Wildcats for the third time in two weeks. The familiar foes are set to tip-off at 6 p.m. inside Lumsden Gymnasium.
