The D'Youville baseball team hit the field for the final time in 2021, falling 18-3 to No. 20 Saint Thomas Aquinas College in East Coast Conference action at Northtown Center in Amherst, N.Y.

With Sunday's season finale, the Saints finished the campaign at 2-25 in their first full season as a provisional NCAA Division II and ECC member, going 0-21 in conference play. STAC captured the ECC regular-season crown with the victory, improving to a 17-3 conference mark and a 23-3 overall record.

Gregory DiGiaro got the Spartan offense rolling in the second inning with an RBI double to left center off of D'Youville starting pitcher Nick Jank. Billy Minett tacked on one more for STAC in the second with an RBI single to center field, doubling the Spartan advantage.

The Saints answered in the home half of the second inning when junior Alex Liem placed a double over the Spartan right fielder to drive in sophomore Nate Mucci. Despite the Saints' response, the Spartans inflated their lead with four more runs in the top of the third courtesy of three bases-loaded walks.

Mucci drew one run back for D'Youville in the bottom of the fourth with an infield single to shortstop, bringing freshman Alex Dzimian home from third base. Two more runs in the top of the fifth and another four-run tally in the seventh put the Spartans in cruise control for the rest of the afternoon, as the conference leaders also put up a five-spot in the eighth inning.

Liem tacked on one more run for the Saints in the bottom of the ninth inning with his second double afternoon, driving it to left field and driving in senior Matt Guenther all the way from first base.

Angelo Baez put together seven innings of work in the start for STAC, allowing one earned run while fanning nine Saints. Jeffrey Dominguez, Josten Beato and Jason Salvo all pitched 0.2 innings in relief.

Jank got the nod in regular season finale for the Saints but only lasted 2.0 innings and was tagged for seven earned runs before handing the ball off to sophomore right-hander Jared Glowniak. In his second relief appearance of the weekend, Glowniak tossed five innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits. Seniors Brendan Burke and Renato Quinones finished the game on the hill for D'Youville, tossing the eighth and ninth innings respectively for the Saints. Burke was hit for two earned runs on four hits while Quinones retired all three batters he faced in the ninth.
