After 361 days off, the D'Youville baseball team will finally return to action, hosting a pair of doubleheaders this week with Hilbert and Cazenovia. The first twin bill will take place Tuesday, March 9, when the Saints square off against Hilbert with first pitch for game one slated for 3 p.m. in Gowanda, N.Y. D'Youville will return to Gowanda on Saturday for the Cazenovia doubleheader, set for a noon start.

Tale of the Tape – While last season's doubleheader scheduled for April with Hilbert, a former Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe, was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Saints did split a doubleheader with Cazenovia in Leesburg, Fl., in their last action before the pandemic cancelled the season. D'Youville took the opening game over Cazenovia on March 13, 2020, 12-6, backed by a two-hit and four-RBI effort from now-sophomore catcher Jeremy Glinski. Senior pitcher Adam Lampman (1-1) picked up the win on the hill for D'Youville. The lefty tossed a seven-inning complete game and fanned two batters while allowing four earned runs and surrendering a pair of walks. The Wildcats pounced on the Saints in the nightcap, using a six-run fourth inning, a four-run fifth inning, and four D'Youville errors on their way to splitting the series, 10-4.

D'Youville by the Numbers - Last season, senior outfielder Kevin Sanders paced the Saints with a .278 batting average, followed by junior outfielder Alex Liem (.273) and senior utilityman Renato Quinones (.267). Glinksi led D'Youville in runs batted in (five), stolen bases (three), and home runs (one). On the bump, senior pitcher Bryce Little's 3.24 ERA paced the Saints while Lampman picked up D'Youville's lone win last season.

Look Who's Back – All five seniors from last year's squad used their waiver from the NCAA that provided an additional season of eligibility, returning for D'Youville's first season as a provisional NCAA Division II program. The group includes Lampman, Little, third baseman/pitcher Brendan Burkefirst baseman/pitcher Nick Jank, and second baseman Matt Guenther.

Hilbert at a Glance – Highlighted by two members of this season's AMCC 'Players to Watch' list, sophomore utilityman Jonathan Wilson and junior pitcher Zachary Crane will lead Hilbert into their first action since a doubleheader sweep over Geneva College on March 7, 2020. The Saints will likely see Crane on Tuesday. The senior was hardly blemished in his two starts last season, picking up two wins on 12 strikeouts while posting a 0.69 ERA over 13.0 innings pitched. Last season, the Hawks were enjoying their best 11-game start in program history to begin a season, starting with a 6-5 mark before their 2020 campaign ended abruptly last March. This year, Hilbert is picked eighth out of the nine teams in the AMCC preseason poll.

Cazenovia at a Glance – The Wildcats are coming off of a 12-0 thumping at the hands of Wells College this past Sunday, March 7, and are set for a rematch with Wells on Monday. In nine games last season, Cazenovia compiled a 3-6 record. In addition to the doubleheader split with D'Youville, the Wildcats picked up wins over Martin Luther College (Minn.) and Mount St. Joseph University (Ohio) during their Florida tripCazenovia returns their top three hitters from last season, including utilityman Miguel Rivera (.346 average, four RBI), outfielder Nick Santoro (.333 average, 10 RBI), and catcher Joe Brisson (.333 average, three RBI).
