Depew, NY - Wednesday, May 2 marked a day of celebration and recognition for all of D'Youville's student-athletes at the yearly Athletics Awards Banquet at Salvatore's Italian Garden.
Head coach Stephanie Kazmierczak and assistant coaches Sherrell McLean and Erin Pennington presented the awards to the D'Youville women's volleyball team.
Senior outside hitter Megan Schneider (Lockport, NY/Lockport) has been one of the most consistent and complete players for the women's volleyball team throughout her career and continued to be this season and was named the team's Most Valuable Player. She took her game to another level this season and established herself as one of the best players in the AMCC and was named an AMCC Second Team All-Conference selection to conclude her career.
At season's end, Megan finished the season tied for ninth in the AMCC in kills (203), eleventh in kills/set (2.31), twelfth in digs/set (3.33), and thirteenth in digs (293). On the roster, Schneider placed second in kills, digs, kills/set, digs/set, fifth in blocks and blocks/set. Throughout the season she recorded nine double-doubles, including finishing the season with four consecutive. Throughout the season she had 17 matches of double-digit digs and nine matches of double-digit kills.
The team's reigning MVP, senior Kendyll Smith (Petrolia, PA/Karns City), had a career year this season and set several career highs to remain one of the best outside hitters in the AMCC. Her leadership and attitude on and off the court earned her the Spartan Award - an award that represents a player who exemplifies teamwork, passion and a dedication to their team.
Kendyll finished fifth in kills during conference play with 102 total this last season, but the senior finished eighth in the AMCC with 206 kills and ninth with 2.37 kills/set overall. At the end of the season, Smith led the team in kills, kills/set, was second in hitting percentage (.169), third in blocks/set (.30), and third in blocks (26). She had 16 matches this season in which she recorded double-digit kills and had a season high of 16. Like Schneider, Smith was one of the best outside hitters in the conference this season and was also named an AMCC Second Team All-Conference selection.
Senior Libero Alexandra Bubar (Wilson, NY/Wilson) has been a defensive leader for the Spartans this season, putting in tireless work and was named the team's Most Improved player. Bubar led the team in digs (380) and digs/set (4.22), was third in assists (63), and fifth in service aces (23).
In the AMCC she ranked seventh in digs/set and eighth in digs. She recorded double-digit digs in 20 of the 26 matches for the Spartans and recorded 20-plus digs in three matches. She recorded a season high of 28.
