McMahan Scores Game Winner in Buffalo Cup Game against Hilbert

Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's soccer team won their fourth consecutive conference game on Tuesday afternoon, defeating the Hilbert Hawks by the final score of 2-0.

D'Youville controlled the ball on offense in the first half of play. Within the first 30 minutes of play, the Spartans tallied eight shots and five corners, knocking on the door of scoring the game's first goal. Threatening chances came from Cassandra Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island), Kaylee Heschke (Newfane, NY/Newfane), and Brittany Cristofanelli (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) all had chances on goal, but the Hilbert defense and goalkeeper were up to the task.

In the final 15 minutes of the half, the Spartans continued to bring wave after wave of attacks, but none found the Hilbert net. After 45 minutes, the teams remained tied at 0-0.

The beginning of the second half continued the trend of the possessing the ball and taking it to the Hawks on offense. D'Youville would finally break through in the 78th minute when Magan Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack) sent a ball in to Rachel McMahan (Grand Island, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) who took a shot that crossed up the Hawk's keeper and the ball found its way into the goal, giving the Spartans a 1-0 lead.

Just a few minutes later in the 85th minute, Magee connected for her second assist of the game as she played a ball over the top to her sister, Makenna Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack), for a breakaway. The younger Magee sister made no mistake as she beat the Hilbert keeper from close range for her fourth goal in five games and a 2-0 D'Youville lead.

In the 87th and 89th minutes, the women nearly added two more goals with shots off the post from Cristofanelli and Brooks. Despite the late scoring opportunities, the women would maintain their two-goal advantage as they would win their fourth consecutive game 2-0.

With 22 shots and 13 corners, the women brought constant offensive pressure throughout the game. Brooks led the team with seven shots in the game with Cristofanelli tallying four and Jamiliah McBryde (Buffalo, NY/Erie CC) totaling three. Magan Magee picked up a pair of assists in the game with McMahan and Makenna Magee scoring the goals. in total, 10 different Spartans recorded at least one shot in the game.

In net, Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) had a quiet game. With just two saves, Megan recorded her fourth consecutive shutout and her fifth this season. Dulniak had a comfortable evening due in large part to her defense. Dominique Riforgiato (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia), Isabella Lucania (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder), Anna Hayes (Hamburg, NY/Mt. St. Mary's Academy), Magan Magee, and Brooks were at the top of their game all 90 minutes.

The women will next play this Saturday, October 13 as they host Mount Aloysius at 1:00pm in the AMCC game of the week. It will also be the women's senior game.
