Women's Lacrosse Closes Out Season on Senior Day

Buffalo, NY – The D'Youville women's lacrosse team closed out their season on Thursday evening by losing to the Fredonia Blue Devils 16-9.

It didn't take long for the Spartans to strike on offense. Just 0:19 into the game, senior Jillian Golding (Lockport, NY/Lockport) opened the scoring with her first goal of the game for a quick 1-0 lead. Unfortunately for D'Youville, that would be their last goal for the next 16 minutes as they fell behind the Blue Devils 6-1. Golding and Marissa Markott (Sanborn, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) would each score in the final 13 minutes, but Fredonia took an 8-3 into halftime.

With two quick goals from Golding to begin the second half, the Spartans trailed by four at 9-5 with just over half of the second half to go. Fredonia would grow their lead to seven at 13-6 and then maintain a seven-goal advantage at 15-8 with seven minutes left on the clock. D'Youville was unable to get anything going late as they fell in their final game of the season 16-9.

As she has done throughout the season, Golding led the team in goals with five. Markott tallied two goals as did Sierra Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island). Julia Prychodko (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) led the team with five ground balls and Marina Campbell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Catholic) had a team high four draw controls. Megan Dunliak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) made 16 saves in the game.
