Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville men's soccer team reached the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) playoffs for the second consecutive season and have also had two all-conference players for the second consecutive season, announced the conference Tuesday.
Junior forward Hunter Sherman (Lockport, NY/Lockport) and senior center back Josh Hammer (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) were both named all-conference players for the second straight season. Sherman earns his first AMCC First Team All-Conference appearance after a second team appearance in 2017 while Hammer capped off his outstanding career as a Spartan with an AMCC Second Team All-Conference appearance as he was a third team all-conference selection in each of the past three seasons.
Sherman led the team in goals (7), points (15), and shots (55) this season and was the team's driving force on offense. In conference play, Hunter ranked tied for fourth in goals (7) and points (15) but led the AMCC in game winning goals (3). All of Sherman's goals came in wins or ties for D'Youville.
Hunter began his season with a pair of two-goal games which game in 3-0 and 4-0 wins. He was the driving force on offense for D'Youville, scoring at least a goal in each of the team's four wins. Hunter combines size, speed, power, and accuracy. He has great foot skill and a powerful, accurate shot that puts pressure on any defense.
Hammer has started every game of his career and has been an incredible presence for the men for each of his four seasons. Josh has every tool a player would need with size, speed, strength, agility, soccer IQ, foot skill, vision, jumping, and leadership. He has done a great job with stopping oncoming attacks and creating from the back.
Not only a presence on the defensive end, Hammer finished the season tied for second on the team in goals and tied for third in points to showcase his offensive abilities. He has been the ultimate leader and representative to the team and set the standard for being a Spartan. Josh has been an AMCC Third Team All-Conference as a freshman, sophomore, and junior.
