Buffalo, NY - The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) released their men's basketball preseason poll on Monday afternoon with the D'Youville men's basketball team expected to rebound from last season and compete a for a playoff position.
D'Youville finished 2017-18 as the tied for ninth in the AMCC and have been predicted to finish in eighth in the conference this year. A 6-18 record overall and a 3-15 conference record saw the men fall short of their desired results, but the team has a very strong veteran leadership group with talent to back it up. In addition, the team has added key young pieces that will be expected to contribute immediately and push the team to a playoff appearance.
A strong returning backcourt of senior guard Jeremy VanDuluitgaarden (Verona, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) and junior point guard Simeon Heard (Rochester, NY/Charles Finney) will be asked to lead the team back to the playoffs and create offensively for the men.
VanDuluitgaarden led the team in scoring in 2017-18 (14.1 PPG), was second in rebounding (6.4 RPG), minutes (28.5 MPG), and steals (1.3 SPG). In the conference, Jeremy finished sixth in points (14.6 PPG) as he showcased his scoring against top-level opponents. Throughout the entire season, Jeremy finished with four double-doubles, 13 double-figure scoring games (nine of last ten games), and six games of double-digit rebounds. He is also a team captain.
As for Heard, the team's lead guard can not only create for himself and others. He led team in assists (2.5 APG) and steals (1.2 SPG) while finishing third in points (11.2 PPG), fourth in FG% (41.5%), and fifth in rebounds (3.5 RPG). Simeon recorded 11 games of double-figure scoring and will also be a team captain this year.
